Dear Photograph…

Oh, man. This is one of those projects that makes me cry. Then, I tell myself to knock it off. Then, I look at it again and the tears start. So, I’m going to say it, this project is special.

Dear Photograph,
New Year’s resolutions and 30 years gone by…what was that little boy inside of me thinking about so long ago? I hope I never quit chasing that little boy’s dreams. It’s what matters most.
Scott

Are you crying?  No?

Dear Photograph,
Thank you for giving my husband one more time to hold his grandmother in his arms.  She passed away before we could get to her side in Costa Rica.
Vanessa “Pura Vida”

You’re crying now, right?  You’re totally crying.  Don’t play.  You’re so crying.

Alright – so it’s a simple concept, right?  You take a new photograph in the same place as an old one with a print of the old photo matching up with the landmarks of the space and sometimes people.

I want to see every parent do this!  I’m not kidding. Stop it!  So what if I’m a dork!  Shut up!  Dude, you should do this.  You will thank me later. I promise, it’s worth being subjected to your kids rolling eyes at Thanksgiving, Christmas, April Fools day, whatever.  Take a picture with your kids in it and print it out.  The next year you stick them in positions where they’re pretending to hold up the photo. Or maybe they’re hiding in the environment to be called out later.  Then, all you need to do is write something gut-wrenching about childhood dreams being like bubbles that are all iridescent and beautiful until they burst or something. (No, you don’t have to do that part. Wait until years later – that 20/20 vision thing talking back to you from last year. Wait for that.)

You can also hire me to do this for you, call 651.890.6685.  (C’mon!  You had to know that was coming!)

Okay, one more:

Dear Photograph,
My son couldn’t believe that I was ever little enough to cry myself to sleep on that step.
John
Check out  Dear Photograph.
